Greece and Italy Reign Supreme

After a truly amazing fortnight of waterpolo at the recent FINA World Championships in Shanghai, China, Team Greece and Team Italy took home the Ladies and Mens titles respectively.

The Ladies game saw the smaller but extremely mobile and talented Greek team narrowly defeat the POWER HOUSE local favourites.  The Chinese Ladies Team got better and better as the tournament went on, looking like an unstoppable machine at times.  It was sure grit and determination from a fantastic Greek side that got them their first ever World Championship Gold medal.
Russia defeated Italy to take the Bronze medal in the ladies section.

The Mens section of the Tournament saw the recent World League Champs take on the very impressive Italian Team.  One would have thought Team Serbia would have dominated the game physically but the impressively conditioned Italians took the game to them from the very first whistle.  It took 2 periods of extra time to eventually crown Italy as the Mens 14th FINA World Champions. Italian goalkeeper and Captain, Tempesti, managed to save two 5m penalty shots from the tournaments MVP, Fillipovich, to help his team to victory.
Croatia managed to see of arch rivals Hungary in the bronze medal match.
