World Student Games Draw

26th Universidad in Shenzhen, China 2011

14 teams from four continents have entered the Men´s water polo tournament of
The 26th Universidad to be held 11 to 23 August in Shenzhen, China. Men´s
Water polo has been one of the core sports of the Student´s World Games since their very beginnings in 1959. Many young players have already gained
International experience on senior level in this event. The reigning
Title-holders are coming from Australia as historical winner of 2009 event
In Belgrade, Serbia while 2007 gold medalist Montenegro is missing this time round.

Women’s water polo will be part of the Student World Games for the second time after its debut at the 2009 edition of the Games.

South Africa will unfortunately not be sending teams to participate in the water polo event!

MacNificant in TURBO


The MacNificant Highlanders Team did themselves proud at the recent SA Masters Tournament 2011 held in East London.  Pictured above, in their custom tartan design TURBO caps and TURBO Scotland suits, they finished a creditable 3rd place in the 30 - 40 age group.  They were also awarded the Spirit of Masters Trophy for the 4th time!

Serbian Men's Water Polo Team - Current World Champions



Sunday 17th July – Saturday 30th July

There are 16 teams separately in Men’s and Women’s Water Polo competition, namely, best four in World Cup, best two in World League, host team and representatives from each continent---3 teams from Europe, 2 from America, 2 from Asia, 1 from Africa and 1 from Oceania.

The South African Men’s and Woman’s teams will once again be participating in this event and the draws are as follows:

The draw for the World Championships 2011 in Shanghai, for the Women`s tournament, resulted as follows:

Group A: Netherlands, United States, Kazachstan and Hungary;

Group B: Australia, Canada, New Zealand and Uzbekistan;

Group C: Russia, Greece, Spain and Brazil;

Group D: Italy, China, Cuba and
South Africa.


The draw for the World Championships in Shanghai, China, to be held from 16-30 July, resulted as follows:

Group A: Spain, Montenegro, Hungary and Kazachstan;

Group B: Serbia, Romania, Australia and China;

Group C: Croatia, Canada, Brazil and Japan;

Group D: Italy, United States, Germany and
South Africa.

Group winners will qualify for the quarter finals. Numbers two and three from group A will play a cross-over duel against numbers three and two from group B. Same thing will happen in group C and D.

TURBO ACTION POLO TOURNAMENT



It is with great excitement that we announce the launch of THE TURBO ACTION POLO TOURNAMENT on Monday nights at Reddam House, Tokai.

Taking elements from both the IPL and Varsity Cup concepts, this exciting initiative has been created to “bring the fun back” to polo during the off season!

General Information:

  1.   Players names with payment to be submitted by Friday 22nd April if you would like    to be part of this POLO EXTRAVAGANZA
  2.      The Tournament will Start on the 9 May and Run until the 6 June 2011.
  3.       The Cost is R300.00 per player.
  4.       There will be Prizes throughout the tournament.
  5.       There will be Drinks and Snacks on SALE.
  6.       Captains will be nominated per Team and they will liaise with their team each      week – THERE ARE NO COACHES.
  7.       Neutral Refs will be supplied.
TOURNAMENT RULES:
1)      All Participants must be between Grade 8 and Grade 12.
2)      Teams are randomly drawn from a “Hat” and will be mixed boys and Girls.
3)      There are 10 Players per team and a minimum of 2 Boys and 2 Girls in the water at all time.
4)      5 Players and 1 Goalkeeper in the water, max 4 on the bench.
5)      Games are 2 x 10min Running Time.
6)      All games will run on one Central Clock and will start on TIME.
7)      All games are HALF Pool.
8)      Balls are TURBO SIZE 4.

Power PLAY Rules:
1)      Each Team has one TIME OUT .
2)      Time out Results in a POWER PLAY of ONE Min.
a.       Any Goals scored by the Team who called the Time OUT, Counts as 2 goals during that time.
Exclusions:
1)      When a player gets excluded they stay out until a goal is scored by either team.
2)      5m Penalties count as 2 Goals.
